Most Expensive Homeowners Insurance in Texas
If you’re looking for the priciest home insurance rates anywhere in Texas, then look no further than the coastal cities dotting east and southeast Texas. Residents in the 3 most expensive cities (which we’ve listed below) pay $2,488 each year to protect their homes, or 52% more than the state average.
Needville, TX
“The Home of Friendly People” as its known around town, Needville is the smallest city inside of our top and bottom 3 with slightly less than 3,000 residents. But regardless of size, there’s no hiding the fact that Needville, TX has the highest homeowners insurance rates in The Lone Star State. With rates averaging $2,569 per year, those looking to insure their house in Needville are paying 57% more than average Texas citizen.
Corpus Christi, TX
The 8th largest city in Texas, Corpus Christi is a port city that has earned the nickname “Sparkling City by the Sea” for its favorable year-round weather and scenic setting on the Gulf of Mexico. However, its position on the water means that it’s incredibly susceptible to high winds and flooding from any large tropical storms or hurricanes that may blow in off the ocean. Because of this, Corpus Christi has the 2nd highest homeowners insurance costs in the entire state. Premiums are slightly less than Needville at $2,509 per year.
Galveston, TX
Fifty miles southeast of downtown Houston, Galveston is a port city and home base to four Carnival Cruise line ship (Conquest, Ecstasy, Magic, and Triumph) in addition to Royal Caribbean’s ‘Mariner of the Seas’. Like Corpus Christi, Galveston has no line of defense against big storm rolling in off the Gulf. As such, homeowners insurance prices are significantly higher than the TX state average as residents of Galveston take the brunt of the damage when weather events occur. Premiums for home coverage average $2,384 per year or $199 each month.

Study Methodology
Rates are based on a one year policy term. The hypothetical home is a 10 year old home with brick veneer and is covered up to $150,000. The homeowner has no claims history and above average credit. The annual premium for each city was taken by averaging the rates offered by the 28 companies we looked at as part of the study.
